Love it, drink it by the bottle
A year later, I came across this whiskey on sale and, having gone through a fair number of whiskies in the time that passed, I felt I should give it another try (the negative review directly below, from Jan 2021, is mine.) And it was worth it. This is an entry level single malt that punches above its weight (43% certainly helps), with a nice kick of pepper/spice in the finish. Pineapples, Vanilla, Custard, Pepper and some tannic flavors. The Virgin oak casks here don’t exert such a big influence, it seems more balanced to me. Good stuff, great for the price.
Nose: Alcohol, pineapples Palate: Thin, watery mouthfeel. Bitter and a bit spicy. Too much so to pay attention to anything else. Finish: Overly Bitter Not improved by a few drops of water, bitterness is quite prominent (not necessarily a bad thing, but when it isn't accompanied by much else it becomes unpleasant rather than engaging.) Not good by any measure.
Easy drinking
A bright flavored scotch. You definitely can taste its youth. If you put price into the equation Tomatin Dualchas would be a 5 star scotch.
