A vibrant young Laphroaig whose maturation has been accelerated by ageing in quarter casks. This shows soft sweetness and a velvety feel when first tasted, then the intense peatiness so unique to Laphroaig comes bursting through. A terrific whisky and great value.Tasting Notes (2)

Seductive smells. Ripe, new-make barley sweetness. A barbecue. A flower. A sooty chimney. A horse. A can of condensed milk. A slice of apple and a piece of Gouda. An amazingly tactile nose, if that makes sense; the aromas seem to make physical contact, they touch me.
Oak. Fruit. Grandparents' musty apartments. Soft impact that is very sensual and easy at the higher-than-normal abv%. Toffee and stubbed cigarettes. Nutty cheesiness. Slow arrival of a huge peaty impact and a cloud of smoke. Smoky finish with biscuity chewiness hanging around.
SUMMARY: An absolute treat to drink. Full-on and not for every mood, but hearty as a good stew. A sweeter, softer, friendlier Laphroaig that still manages to fill every corner of the house of your senses with the medicinal peatiness in ways that only Laphroaig can. And should. And does.

Powerful smoke, sweet malt, wet turf, coal. Develops chocolate & cinnamon.
Full-bodied, rich and mouth-coating. Delicious sweet gristy malt and rich peat, woodsmoke. The coal appears mid-palate.
Very long, sweet and smoky, with the coal lingering longest.
A belter. Denser and deeper than the 10 yr-old. Very more-ish.

I didn’t like at first. But it grew on me and now i always have a bottle at home. Delicious!
So... I tried this one after seeing some reviews and went on it with mixed feelings. I think that overall it was nice... A bit harsh on the nose but still recognisable Laphroaig character with a lot of smokiness. Tastewise the wood was overpowering at first followed by a lot of sweetness and the smoke was present all the way through. I didnt think that anything was to bad or tasted like asphalt as i read in some reviews although i thought at some point that the taste was a bit to chemical. Let me say that though when i diluted my pour with about 1-2 ml water it opened up and i enjoyed it a lot. All in all it was ok worth the taste but for sure the 10yr old is untouchable by the quarter cask.
Not at all impressed. Opening the bottle, couldn’t quite recognize the smell until a read an earlier review noting overpowering hints of asphalt. First time to try it, and I think this half cask previously used for storing toxic chemicals. This goes to the back of the cabinet, awaiting a night of serious self-hate or to be palmed off to an unsuspecting ‘friend’ I really don’t want to meet again.
It took a couple of glasses, but definitely one of my favourite Islay malts. Simply put, it's like the 10 yo but more robust in every way.
Excellent. Obviously a lot of peatiness going on but its also sweet with a lot of other flavours within it. I always go back to this one no matter which region I wander to. Worth a try if you're new to Islay. Recommended.
