Westland's sherried expression takes its inspiration from Scotch, but has an American feel. Rich and sweet with notes of maple syrup, raisins, cookies and stewed yellow fruits.

Producer's Tasting Notes
-
Nose
The nose offers an immediate richness, with honey-dipped oatmeal raisin cookies. Maple syrup follows close behind, drizzled over banana pancakes.
-
Palate
The palate initially offers some kiwi with more maple and raisin syrup notes. Extended tastings offer a dazzling array of sweet cookies and pastries, getting darker and richer with time before eventually ceding the palate to stewed yellow fruits on the finish.

I had this on a US visit and have clear memories of cocoa, chocolate and malt. I really liked it, but now that I own a bottle its more like Scotch, with a modestly successful sherry finish. A bit too raisin/sultana rich for me.

It's not a true "Scotch", and I may even hesitate to call it an "American Scotch" as some of my friends have done. Nonetheless, it's a pleasant dram. It has some of the maple of Bourbon, but not nearly so sugary. For some reason, despite the tasting notes offered by Westland, I routinely get strong cinnamon notes when I sip. Is this the best whiskey in my cabinet? No. Is it a nice bottle to pull out and enjoy with friends? Absolutely. I'll be ordering it again.
