Italicus Rosolio di Bergamotto is a blend of bergamot peel, Cedro lemons, chamomile, lavender, gentian, yellow roses and Melissa balm. An aromatic and lightly spicy liqueur which balances honeyed sweetness with rooty bitterness.

This is my new aperitivo crush. I'm just loving it with a splash of tonic and olives to bring all the citrus notes up. Try it with fresh grapefruit or a Sicilian lemonade, you will be wonderfully surprised.

As a Rosolio lover, and quite fond of Bergamot, imagine how delighted I was to see this, as Rosolios, once available all over northern Italy, now seem only to be found in a pocket of stores on Burano. The bottle itself is elegant and lovely. I was quite taken aback, however, at the first sip, which I sampled straight up. I could not discern either of the flavors touted on the label, as they were buried under a citrus and complex lavender-something-something (gentian?) taste, with a fairly bitter finish. Maybe the first ‘something’ was bergamot, but it was overwhelmed by the lavender. If you’re searching for a Rosolio, this is not it. However, if you’re looking for a complex, interesting, aperitif unfamiliar to your guests, this definitely belongs on your bar. I’m learning to like it -just not as a Rosolio.
