Macallan 15yo Fine Oak is matured in a combination of Bourbon & Sherry Oak Casks. This range has been around for a few years now and seems to have weathered the storm it caused amongst the faithful when it was initially released. This one is probably the pick of the (Fine Oak) bunch. "Takes time to open but worth the wait. The complete package and arguably the best. 9¼/10" Dave Broom, Whisky Magazine.

Macallan 15 Year Old Reviews

Tasting Notes

  • Producer's Tasting Notes

    Colour: Rich Straw.

Nose: Full aroma with hints of rose and cinnamon.

Palate: Intense rich chocolate, with hints of orange and raisins.

Finish: Lingering with chocolate, hints of orange and dried fruit.

Comment: The Fifteen Year Old expression of Fine Oak brings out the fantastic aromatic qualities of The Macallan whisky. This is perhaps the star of the range, balancing delicacy and finesse with richness on the palate.

Best malt I've tasted. Log fire and a few glasses of 15 year old Mac, almost Heaven:-)

An extraordinary malt. This is like 12 Fine Oak yo, but offers more depth and complexity. The sherry and bourbon influence is absolutely top quality. This one needs time to open like Dave Broom said. This is not for easy going saturday drinkers, many people might prefer 12 yo Fine Oak instead. I agree with Sampo, the best or one of the best whiskies in my cabin. Maybe we should go in Pikkulintu someday?

"Nose": Sherry. No surprise there. Oranges. Spices, peat and Marlboro smoke. Interesting and inviting a sip. "Palate": Orange marmalade, slight vanilla, a transition to summer savory, and other herbal notes before the arrival of some oak. "Finish": Orange peel. Mint and a little ginger before fading to heavy lashes of sea salt.

I indulge in the 12 year from time to time, and it 's very good. The 15, to me, was a little disappointing upon first open-sniff-sip. HEH! Give it a minute sonny! I don't think I've ever had a scotch so sweet & smooth. Of course for the price you expect as much. Yet, whereas I can understand some opinions of being not as flavorful or complex as the 12 year, it is in fact better. Superior nose & smoothness with no bite at all; wish I could afford this all the time!

Hands down the best whisky in my collection.. The nose is so complex that i just want to smell it for 20 minutes before taking a sip! I get a definite marzipan smell there as well. A Connoisseur malt to the bone.

Tried this first at the Sofitel St. James in London and fell in love with it after the first taste. It has a very rich, deep flavour but without any sense of smokiness. The sweet tones means it goes well after dinner but also is a very accessible whiskey for those who aren't usually scotch drinkers.

I first tried this at my sons wedding and was hooked ever since,I have drank many over the years being a Scotsman, and now in my latter years enjoy it at every opportunity.

very good, I like the 12 yo alot so when I took my first sip I wasnt imprssed but by the time I got half way through the glass I was, nice oak taste, the sherry makes it a little sweet, over all good

Why is it called Fine Oak when I think it comes in a glass bottle? I can't understand how they get away with it!

  • trebor 23 November 2009

One of the best noses on a Macallan - deep vanilla oak with just a hint of smoke. Lush, lush soft but full taste and medium long fig and barley finish which rushes to meet you. A superb quality malt sure to be much sought after.

Lots of vanilla - barley to start then a rush of soft fruit. Very nice offering from Macallan. I much prefer the rounded
