Impressive quality/price relationship....more sutile and complex than HP 12y
This is yet another apparently very young (<8yo) NAS offering. A friend bought for me from a ferry. In a proverbial gift horse moment I found this in the mouth to be thin and nasty. It's just about acceptable mixed with Canada Dry. I'll stick with the HP 18yo thanks - with only a little water added.
A smooth and rich heart warming whiskey
an excellent release, all the classic flavors I expect from HP, my high-end bottles of HP have much more depth and complexity but at a very high cost; they are for special occasions. I do not find Einar to be young or spirity, just a solid HP.
Evidently young and very spirity. Nose: The combination of sherry with youthness creates a slightly unpleasant "nail polish remover" like overtone that hides the smell of the other more subtle smells. Palate: The taste also matches the smell, slightly burning and rough, killing off the more subtle tones. Finish: An unpleasant bitterness and burn. I guess you can call it 'smokiness' but it is not the pleasant kind of an Ardbeg, Lagavulin, Caol Ila or Talisker. Overall feel of a cheap spirit. Needs a little bit of water to tone down the roughness, even though it is bottled at just 40%.
This HP Einar is very, but really very similar to the JW Blue Label. I'm surprised!
