Nikka Miyagikyo Single Malt Reviews
Tasting Notes by the Whisky Exchange
Nose: Full and rich with floral notes, tropical fruit, beeswax and hints of wood smoke.
Palate: Malt focused, with cinnamon and ginger spiciness, chocolate and tobacco.
Finish: Long and soft. Tobacco fades to leave spiced, stewed fruit.
Producer's Tasting Notes
Colour: Deep gold.
Nose: Full-flavoured, rich. Initially, concentrated iris notes hint at the extreme intensity of the nose. It then develops aromas of malted barley, exotic fruit (banana), liquorice and camphor. Notes of burnt wood and ash progressively settle over the aromatic palette. Long after, white flowers and beeswax make an appearance.
Palate: Firm, lively. Malted barley is at the heart of the palate, coated in herbaceous, liquorice, spiced (ginger, cinnamon) and chocolate tones. Very elegant, the mid-palate also delivers plenty of energy and as it draws to a close, fresh tobacco leaves and coconut intertwine to create a natural symphony of aromas.
Finish: Long, soft. It evokes the scent of wilted roses. Fine tannins balance its tangy character (lemon, grapefruit). It lingers on notes of tobacco, spices (cardamom, ginger), toasted nuts and stewed fruits (apple, damson). The final nose reveals exotic notes (lychee).

Shared the bottle with friends. A great Sunday afternoon lunch finished with a very good Japanese single malt.
When in Japan I was desperately trying to track down a Hibiki, Yamazaki, or Nikka From The Barrel. No luck. I saw a Miyagikyo Single Malt on the shelf at a grocery store in Ohtawara and decided to grab it and I sure am glad I did. New favorite for sure!
Bought this for a Xmas present for my husband because he wanted to try a Japanese whisky. His reaction when trying it? "Wow, that's something else!" He really likes it, thank you! This also came very well packaged.
My new first choice, have changed from Talisker. It is a long lasting enjoyment.
One of the best whiskeys I've had.
I'm far from being an expert, but my opinion is that this new Single malt from miyagikyo (as far as I know is the new version that replaces the entire line of old minimum aged versions) is very close in taste (not so close in nose) from the previous miyagikyo 10, that was (and still is ) my favourite Single Malt among all those I know. This one, until now, is my new favourite Single Malt, due to the taste profile that is very similar to the old 10yo. Excellent Single malt whisky. Don’t get me wrong, there are others, of course, that are very good too, but this one for me is on top. And I forgot to say, as the old 10yo....delicious!
