Customer Rating
A delicious whisky that is bursting with aromatic tropical fruit: mango, papaya and coconut. Nikka Coffey Grain is made mainly from corn in a continuous Coffey still, and is a fruit-filled treat.

Nikka Coffey Grain Whisky Reviews

Tasting Notes

  • Tasting Notes by The Whisky Exchange

Nose: Sweeter and fruity with oodles of sweet spice, mango, papaya, and orange peel.

Palate: Toffee popcorn, with heady citrus and tropical fruit. Quite a mouthful.

Finish: Not especially long lasting; rich oak and marmalade notes dominate.

  • Tasting Notes by Stuart P

Nose: Sweeter and fruitier than the Coffey Malt, this is has oodles of sweet spice, mango and papaya aromas, candied orange peel and coconut.

Palate: Toffee popcorn, with more of that heady citrus and tropical fruit. Quite a mouthful.

Finish: Not especially long lasting; rich oak and marmalade notes dominate.

Have to give this a mark hovering around five stars. Very like an earlier Ardbeg version, Nam Beist, though a little lighter and cleaner, only really lacking a resounding finish. Subtle, refined and beautifully made.

Wow, we usualy go for Scottish whisky, decided to try this one for a wedding anniversary- really enjoying it, great flavour and very easy to drink. Will be trying another Nikka next time!

I am a fan of Yamazaki and Hibiki and the Nikka Single Barrel I tried did not warm me to the brand. Then on a recent trip to Japan I came back with a selection of whiskys and this Coffey Grain was one of them based upon the favourable reviews I had read here. It has been a bit of a Damascus experience - this Coffey Grain is simply superb - easily the best whisky I brought back and I will definitely be ordering more from the Whisky Exchange - much cheaper than the fare to Narita.

Great Japanese whisky! Loved the citrus tones- but I got a lot of vanilla flavor- both in the initial scent and the full on taste! I think I like this better than Hibiki's Harmony offering.

I'm a bourbon drinker and at whisky shows rarely touch anything else. I went back for three pours of this......sublimely delicious!!!!

I was surprised at the zero rating on smoke. I find this whisky, while a touch on the sweet side, to have a discernibly enjoyable smoky note.

I think it's a real gem. Fantastic flavor and aroma. Try dropping a small piece of black licorice into the Glencairn glass for quite an effect.

Having been a big fan of the top end Yamazaki and Hibiki, this came recommended and did not disappoint. Its delicious

Very nice. Simpler than many whiskeys, but that can be refreshing. (Complexity is such an obsession these days.) Seems halfway between a Highland Scotch and an excellent Irish whiskey. I like it.

Started out as a practical joke, ended up as one of my favorite liquors true story, my coffey grain whisky.
