A six-year-old rye whiskey from Templeton with aromas of red fruit and ginger, complemented by notes of honey, summer flowers and green rye spice throughout the palate.
More from Templeton
As a premise, I don't usually drink rye whiskey. I think that I have tried less than ten ryes in my life. I liked the Michter's and Sazerac (in particular). But here, I don't get the hype. I will use TR6 only as a mixer. I found it too sharp and "simple" to drink it neat or even the rocks.
A great find ! First time to try Templeton and not disapointed. Brilliant price point for such a good whiskey. I drank it neat with a cube of ice but also in my go-to Old Fashioned. Had been using Rittenhouse and Bulleit but much more flavour going on here. Everyone should have a bottle in their collection.
Definitely my favorite rye whiskey. Deep rich flavor, smooth with long lasting aftertaste. Always have at least one bottle at home.
I'd heard good things online about this distillery; to my taste it seems like these were well founded: There are limited bumps or rough edges to this rye. But, it has a great depth, strong character, and is very smooth. Good 'chewy' spiciness, with layers of flavour giving different accents in each sip, a nice hint of sweetness counter balances the dil peeper like front end and aftertaste dry spice. For a mid-range rye this is a bit of a gem, much nicer and more nuanced than more common place options at this kind of price point. Suprisingly good as sipper - highly recommend.
I first tried this at its home, Templeton in Iowa. I can still remember the flavours and just as importantly for me, the smoothness. I was lucky to meet some of the family who still make it after so many years. This is my go to Rye since that moment, I still haven't found anything with its flavours or smoothness.
