Suntory Toki
Product Description

Toki is a blended whisky from Suntory's three distilleries: Yamazaki, Hakushu and Chita. This is a round and sweet blend with a refreshing citrus character and a spicy finish.

'Toki' means 'time' in Japanese. Toki has a different composition to its sister blend, Suntory Hibiki, and its main components are Hakushu single malt and Chita grain whisky.

Suntory Toki

Shinjirō Torii was a man of ambition. When he broke ground on Yamazaki distillery in 1923, he imagined a Japanese whisky culture to rival the best in the world. He had been inspired by the imported whiskies he sold at his shop in Osaka, complex blends comprising malt and grain from across Scotland. Though Torii laid the foundations for the Japanese whisky industry, it was his son Keizo who would realise his vision. Under Keizo’s leadership, Suntory opened two more distilleries – Chita near the city of Nagoya and Hakushu in the Japanese Alps. With three sites producing various styles of spirit, Suntory had everything it needed to make the blends that would bring Japanese whisky to the world stage.

It’s about time

Toki is made with whiskies from across Suntory’s three distilleries. Grain from Chita brings base notes of vanilla and cocoa, single malt from Hakushu supplies fresh aromas of citrus and mint and small quantities of well-aged stock from Yamazaki add spice and depth. Each element is chosen in pursuit of balance and harmony.

The classic whisky highball

Japan’s love for the whisky highball knows no bounds. The simple serve of whisky and soda water is served in high-end restaurants and sold in cans from vending machines. It’s refreshing, excellent with food and easy to make at home.

Pour 50ml of Suntory Toki into a tall glass with lots of ice, stir lightly to chill and top with cold soda water – 150ml is ideal. Garnish with a twist of citrus peel and serve immediately.

    Thomas,

This is Suntory's cheaper whisky intended for drinking as a highball, so not surprising people aren't keen on drinking it neat

    General Disappointment. One star.,

This is not my first time drinking Japanese whisky, but it might be my last now. This is very poor, very hot and much too young. Japanese whisky used to be a much better product. What a shame.

    daveymate,

I have tried several different Japanese whiskies. This is my least favorite. It is too strong to drink neat. I will try it as a highball where I think it will be much more enjoyable. A few notes of fruit and herbs but falls short on complexity and refinement.

    Sam,

This was my first time trying a Japanese whisky, and I'm very impressed. Pleasant aromas of honey and pine resin that carry through on to the palate, where they're joined by floral notes, a hint of citrus, and a slight pepper spice. I'm definitely in unfamiliar territory here, as my go-to is any bottle full of smoke and peat from Islay, but I found this very pleasant and easy to drink. I'll certainly be back for more!

    Nicholas,

First time trying out the Japanese whisky brands and I must say this isn't bad introduction for the price. Still a scotch whisky drinker, but I cant wait and try Suntory other brands of the Asian market.
