What is dubbel gebeide genever?
Boatyard use a rare process by which the spirit is exposed to juniper twice during distillation. Called ‘dubbel gebeide genever’ by Dutch spirits experts, it involves putting juniper berries in both the pot of the still and the vessel through which the spirit vapour runs during distillation. By exposing it to juniper at two separate points in its creation, the distiller can create a gin with a more complex and pronounced juniper flavour.
About Boatyard
Situated on a marina inside an old boatyard on the banks of Lough Erne, Northern Ireland, Boatyard is an award-winning farm-to-bottle distillery founded in 2016 by Joe McGirr. It uses botanicals and wheat grown locally on McGirr’s family farm to create aromatic, floral spirits and is truly a family operation: Joe’s sister Teresa is on the distillery team, his brother manages the farm and his elder sister Marie writes the poetry for the labels.
