A great, but sadly neglected, Highlander, Blair Athol is one of the gems of the Flora & Fauna range. This expression has always tended towards the chunky, sherried style, with spices and oak adding complexity to rich maltiness.Tasting Notes (1)

Producer's Tasting Notes
Muscat grapes and maderised wine; a hint of over- the-top Sauternes. More than a whiff of brimstone in the background, even tar. Dried apricots in the foreground, and treacle toffee. Becomes more toffeed as it is exposed to the air. With water, a dense combination of sweet and rich scents, like a basket of dried fruit, with some fresh gooseberries, apricots and oranges, topped by Russian toffees. The winey notes have fallen back.
In brief… Interesting and unusual sweet aftertaste. in a sentence… A rich, sweet malt best drunk with only a drop of water, when it holds its sweetness better.
Very curiously, a sweetness is introduced at the end, after the acidity and dryish finish has passed.

Can' say I'm not enjoying this.It just seems to lack a bit of body.Think I'll buy a Sig. Cask next time.Double the price but hopefully worth it3.75\5
Often overlooked in this series because of its constant availability, it is without doubt one of the most interesting flora and fauna releases and for me is the closest expression to the famous Mortlach bottle, with a punchy sherry influence and full bodied flavour profile. A great whisky at this price and one to enjoy on a regular basis. Blair Athol - takes me back to Perthshire.
I think I have just found my favourite whiskey ever and believe me I have tried a lot
Excellent, very easy to drink. Found it to be much sweeter than expected and medium bodied. At risk of finishing it too quickly and will surely get another when done.
