Tasting notes by Billy Abbott (The Whisky Exchange)
Nose: Initially closed, with sharp lemon and sweet heather. Candied notes develop: Love Hearts and candy bracelets, vanilla caramel, pear drops and Granny Smith toffee apples. Water breaks it wide open, with creamy vanilla providing a backdrop for the sweetshop and fruity flavours.
Palate: Punchy with a buttered richness to start, run through with a thick vein of syrupy sweetness. Rhubarb and custard sweets lead to a green leaves and a warming black pepper and cinnamon spiciness, all wrapped around a stewed apple core. Water reduces the intensity and smooths out the fruit while leaving the spice.
Finish: Candied fruit and spice slowly fades to leave toffee, apples and a lingering touch of black pepper.
Comment: A dram that shines with water, revealing a complex mixture of fruit and spice.
