A fruity, mellow single malt, adorned with the Great Spotted Woodpecker that lives in the woods near Mannochmore distillery. At first, the nose brings green twig and brimstone aromas that build to green apples, toasted oak, lemon zest and sweet malt. Fresh and bright, the palate brings notes of dry oak spice, green grass, apples and oranges that fade to a lingering, dry finish.

    • Nose

      Butter, sweet grass, hint of parma violets, honeysuckle and toffees.

    • Palate

      Sweet buttercream with hints of young spirit quickly picks up some dark wood and spice.

    • Finish

      Medium long with some prickly spice and more butter. Sweet wood as it fades.

    • Comment

      An oily dram with a lot more astringency than the nose suggests. Sweet and buttery but with elegant woodiness adding complexity.

    The tasting notes are pretty accurate: it's a lovely whisky, light on the palate, slightly floral, rather unusual. A real find and worth every penny.
