Product Description
A complex Japanese gin with refreshing yuzu citrus top notes and a spicy shansho pepper twist. Roku means 'six' in Japanese and refers to the six local, seasonal botanicals which complement eight traditional gin botanicals (juniper berries, coriander, lemon peel, etc) and give this spirit a distinctly Japanese character.
The Japanese botanicals are: sakura flower (cherry blossom), sakura leaf, sencha tea, gyokuro tea, sansho pepper and yuzu peel.
Try serving this in a gin and tonic with a ginger garnish, which accentuates the citrus notes.

Tasting Notes
Tasting Notes
Tasting notes from the producer
Nose
Cherry blossom and green tea provide a floral and sweet aroma.
Taste
Complex, multi-layered, yet harmonious flavour of various botanicals. Traditional gin taste in the base, plus characteristic Japanese botanical notes with yuzu as the top note. Smooth and silky texture.
Finish
The crisp Japanese sansho pepper brings a little spiciness to the finish.
Though better known for its whiskies, Suntory has been in the gin business since 1936. Inspired by a vogue for western drinks, the company’s founder Shinjirō Torii enjoyed success with a range of European-style spirits long before his company became a global player. Roku represents more than 80 years of experimentation and refinement, a classic gin with Japanese character.
For everything there is a season
Each of the Japanese botanicals found in Roku gin represents a particular moment in the passing seasons. Sakura blossoms are harvested during their brief flowering in early-spring, Sencha and Gyokuro teas are picked in the warm summer months, sansho peppercorns in autumn, and Yuzu peel in the chill of early winter. At Suntory’s Osaka distillery, these botanicals are distilled separately and blended together to create balance and depth.
Roku Puff
This vibrant and fruity cocktail is built on a sweet and sour combination of pineapple and lemon which pairs perfectly with Roku. The addition of ginger adds a touch of spice and accentuates the gin's top notes.
Ingredients
- 37.5ml Roku gin
- 50ml Pineapple juice
- 25ml Citrus juice (yuzu, lemon or a mix of the two)
- 12.5ml Ginger syrup
- Nutmeg to garnish
Method
Chill a martini glass in the freezer while you’re preparing everything else. Shake all ingredients hard with plenty of ice until the outside of your cocktail shaker is frosty. Strain into your frozen cocktail glass, grate a little nutmeg over the top, sip and enjoy.

I like this... the Japanese botanicals, especially yuzu, have worked well in every context I've tried it in. Negroni fans don't typically rate Martini Rosso, but with Roku, for some reason, it's delicious.
Didn't care for it at all, do like my gin but this isn't for me. Had an aftertaste that was unpleasant , put me in mind of the Ophir spiced . I'd say it tasted savory which is not for me
Yes and was slightly disappointed. The Extra botanicals confuse the palette and the combined result I found bitter.
yes.and one of the finest gins I ever had.its smoothness and softness I just brilliant.
Best gin ever!
