The first peated whisky in Bunnahabhain's core range. Like the limited edition Toiteach that came before it, Toiteach A Dha (which means 'smoky two' in Scots Gaelic) is a smoky single malt with a sherry twist.
Matured in both bourbon and sherry casks, with a higher sherry influence than Toiteach, this is a delicate mix of smoke and sweet sherry fruit.

Intense peat smoke. A touch of tarry rope. Impressive in a classic Islay style. Big flavours.

In my most recent dram of this malt, I get the smoke in the nose and in the oral cavity, but it isn't strong enough to register on my palate. The berried-honeylike sweetness is immediate upon arrival for me, whether neat or more prominently, after just a drop of water. This is a full, rich and textured malt and a drop of water just parses-out all of those distinct layers. This dram aerated nicely with water and sent warm waves throughout my body, tantamount to a loving hug from a trusted friend.

Can really taste the wood in there. It took a while for the taste to come out after the bottle had been opened, but now I really enjoy it.

I like Toiteach a Dha very much. I think it's the combination between the smoke and sherry. A whisky all whisky lovers should have in the whisky cabinet. Five stars for sure.
