Product Description

Softly smoky and packed with rich fruit flavour, Jura 18 sits at the top of the Jura range. Aged for 18 years in bourbon casks before a finish in red wine casks, this carefully balances the distillery's soft smoke with weighty flavours from the casks.

Tasting Notes

Tasting Notes

  • Tasting notes by Billy Abbott, The Whisky Exchange

    • Nose

Creamy vanilla yoghurt with hints of hazelnut to start. A soft mineral note builds from underneath, pairing with sweet spiced bread, orange peel, brown sugar and white pepper. Toffee and milk chocolate truffle peek out at the end.

    • Palate

Soft spice grows, pushing its way through sponge cake and orchard fruit. Gentle notes of barrel char provide a background of smokiness, which builds over time. The smoke is balanced by dried fruit, dark chocolate and candied lemon.

    • Finish

The char lingers, with spiced studded orange peel and chocolate notes growing and then fading.

    Anonymous,

Tasted at TWE Whisky of the Year 2022. It very almost won on votes but was narrowly beaten by Ledaig 18. Don't know why it gets so much hate

    David A,

Very smoth, love the red wine finish, as I am a big red wine drinker, but perhaps a little niche for some. Great value.

Nice enough but I will not buy again

    Reggie,

Really enjoyed this one. Complex with subtle plummy notes of Red Wine hiding away wrapped up with a whisper of smoke on the background but not over powering.

    TWC,

first I tried the new 10 y old and thought it was quite nice and then the 12 yr old and that was absolutely superb, loads and loads of flavour with a very long and changing finish, there really is lots going on. Then this the 18 yr old, finished in red wine casks and bottled at 44% so far so good. But then the aroma, not much no smoke as in the younger two, a little fruit but not much else.Taste, nice mouthfeel at 44% a little more fruit, some spice and then....... nothing, it's gone no linger no smoke no nothing. Can't help but think what a waste of 18 yr old matured spirit, far better to had used the sherry casks to finish and produced an enhanced 12yr old.Certainly not as good as the old Durach's 16 yr old and almost half the cost again.
