Tasting Notes

Tasting Notes

  • Tasting notes by Billy Abbott, The Whisky Exchange

    • Nose

Proper Scottish porridge – a pinch of salt and rich oats – stirred through with a spoon of decadently sweet Strawberry jam and sprinkled with raisins.

    • Palate

Creamy and chocolatey, with the porridge of the nose dusted with cocoa. Soft spice builds – cardamom and cinnamon – with rich hot chocolate and squashed raisins following.

    • Finish

Fruity dark chocolate fades to reveal apple and a touch of liquorice.

    Ryan P,

I last bought this about fifteen years ago and wasn’t impressed then. Unfortunately it is still a strange concoction. As though someone has taken the flavour concentrate of a Highland whisky and added it to some colouring and a very immature light yellow whisky. This stuff is fiery, making me wonder how long it has really spent in a barrel. Very sweet, tonnes of fruit, but harsh.

    Winifred Lewis,

Having first sampled Isle of Jura in Campbell Town approx 25 years ago and wondered at its smoothness and beauty, last week I purchased as a present what I thought was the same Isle of Jura 10 year old Malt. Both as a present and a reminder to myself. It is not the same wonderful taste at all, I cannot now sip it neat over ice, it appears to me to be sharp and raw with a rough edge. It have to dilute it with coke, what a waste! I will not purchase again.

    Gerrymandering,

I love this whisky. Dark 70% chocolate immediately on the nose. Sweet and balanced on the palate without smoke for me, and on the finish a delightful apple, with crumble. It's a delicious 10yo. Well done Jura. Will always have in my collection.

    Ady,

Right, fairly subtle on the nose, bit of fruit and some sweetness. Not as smooth on the palate as some. Sweetness, caramel with a pepper hit, some heat, not getting much smoke. Raisins? Finish, heat fades through sweetish fruit to become quite dry, hint of smoke? Pleasant enough without being challenging. No huge character.

    Eddie,

    Very short aftertaste.
