A much-anticipated entry in the Diageo Special Releases, harking back to the Talisker bottlings of the 1970s and 1980s. Matured in first-fill ex-bourbon casks, it is a surprisingly rich take on Talisker's fresh and maritime spirit, with layers of bacon, fruit and spice.

Nose
Bandages and sea spray, with vanilla-heavy custard tarts and lime peel. Smokiness builds, bringing barbecued meat and sweet peat. Underneath everything is a spicy mist of burning pine needles.

Palate
Rich and thick on the tongue. Sweet bacon, chocolate, lime and black pepper are wrapped in dark break and dusted with salt. Seaspray reemerges, floating above everything.

Finish
Mint and menthol with creamy touches that fade to leave salty buttered toast.

Comment
This was the whisky I was most looking forward to in the Special Releases 2018, and it didn't disappoint. Classic salt, pepper and smoke Talisker with a rich background.

You're missing out if you haven't had a chance to try this Tali. It's well balanced and amazingly rich in all senses. This is a bottle to enjoy on your own / private collection.

Smashes 57 north out of the court, this is medieval alchemy and the burning of the witch, smoky salty sweet and savoury, oily powerful rich and strong
