Port Charlotte's long-awaited 10 year old, rich and smoky whisky made by the independently minded folks at Bruichladdich distillery on Islay. PC, as it's known to its friends, is heavily peated to 40ppm, putting it up with Islay's other heavy hitters. The resulting whisky is big and peaty with a maritime tang – the Bruichladdich team would claim that it's because their warehouses are so close to the sea, we're still undecided. In the end, the most important thing is the taste: it's rather good.Tasting Notes (1)

Toffee and vanilla fudge jump out before we dive into a bucket of singed raisins and smouldering peat bricks. Green grass and leafy notes poke out around the edges along with candied lemons and flamed orange peel.
A sweet creamy hit up front leads into lemon boiled sweets. black-pepper spice and a thick layer of peaty smoke. The green edges from the nose are back, with richer notes of stewed apples and sultanas, and a touch of vanilla toffee.
Menthol throat sweets and sweet smoke slowly fade to leave grilled apples and buttery pastry.

First time I try anything from Bruichladdich. This is a great whisky. Color is a very light, clear gold, hay. Feint legs form and quickly dissipate into tears around my glass. Nose is pungent smoke similar to mesquite, brine, almost like a smoked oyster on a saltine cracker, caramel, vanilla. On the palate, honey, vanilla, oak, smoke. Finish is long, slightly peppery with notes charcoal ash, honey, vanilla. Medium body mouthfeel. Would like to try this side by side with a Laphroaig or Ardbeg 10yo.
For its price this is an absolute belter. Not surprised it won whisky of the year, I would be hard pushed to name a better whisky at this price point. I tend to drink Ardbeg, Lagavulin, Laphroaig and Octomore so I'm definitely a Islay fan, and this definitely holds its own amongst those. Highly recommended.
Excellent value for money at less than £50. Incredibly smooth for something that is 50% ABV. Happily buy again.
Lovely smoky whisky , more subtle than a Lagavulin but very drinkable
This is a great value for money Whisky, delicious and very drinkable. Can see why it won Whisky of the Year!
