Green Spot 1991 / 26 Year Old / Marsala Cask / Exclusive to The Whisky Exchange
Product Description

A very special bottling, selected by and exclusive to The Whisky Exchange: a single cask of 26-year-old Green Spot pot still whiskey, distilled at Midleton and filled into cask on 18 October 1991. It was initially matured in bourbon and sherry casks, before the spirit was reracked into a single Marsala butt for further maturation. The result brings together the fresh fruit flavours of bourbon-cask maturation with the richer dried fruit notes you get from sherry casks, and stirs them both together with fragrant Marsala and classic Irish pot-still fruit and spice.

Tasting Notes

Tasting Notes

  • Tasting notes by Billy Abbott, The Whisky Exchange

    • Nose

Brown sugar, papaya, barley sugar and cigar boxes – a wide ranging hint of things to come. Fragrant oak and fruit are wrapped around a core of mixed peel. More fruit sits underneath: sultanas, raisins, apricots, peaches and crunchy pears. Butter, vanilla toffee, anise and baking spices float around above.

    • Palate

Spiced fruit cake gallops across the palate pulling a wagon of fruit: gummi chews and wine gums, stewed apples and pears, and a touch of apricot. Darker notes of spiced shortbread and cocoa powder develop, with hints of black liquorice. The fruity core remains, with candied fruit notes building.

    • Finish

Sharp fruit and spice fade to leave chocolate brownies and wine-gum fruitiness.

    • Comment

Fragrant, elegant and complex. The three types of cask have done their bit and layered fruit and spice on top of the rich pot-still spirit. One to contemplate.

This might be one of my all-time favorites. So complex. Creamed fruit crumble. Every sip brings something new and exciting and forces me to keep exploring. I've wasted a lot of money on overpriced whisky that fell short of the promise and this is the rare bottle that far exceeded my expectations. Absolutely stunning.

As an avid spot whiskey drinker, I had to bend my arm to buy this, I am so glad I did, the most sumptuous of all spot whiskeys, very creamy lingering into spice, with that everlasting single pot still taste, the best I've ever tasted.

Have bought this whiskey, but am afraid to open and taste it until I have reached the appropriate moment of Zen calm and mental preparedness. Such is the awe with which I view thw bottle in front of me!
