Product Description

After more than a decade in American white oak ex-bourbon barrels, this 12-year-old single malt from Fettercairn is a classic example of the distillery's signature tropical fruit style. The palate brings notes of vanilla, pears and soft spices, before a fruity wave of nectarines, tropical fruit, clove, ginger and roasted coffee. The finish is lingering and sweet, offering notes of black toffee and sultanas.

Tasting Notes

Tasting Notes

  • Tasting notes from Billy Abbott, The Whisky Exchange

    • Nose

Candied lemon and pineapple, butter icing and a hint of mint. A touch of meatiness sits right at the back, giving the dram some weight. The sweetness builds and orchard fruit develops along with vanilla, milk chocolate and some green leaves. A thread of fruitiness runs through the middle.

    • Palate

Soft and rounded, with gentle spice, milk chocolate and sweet cream leading. Fresh pineapple notes are balanced by fresh oak, with damp oak and damp leaves following. Cinnamon, candied ginger and nutmeg develop, along with a touch of creamy coffee.

    • Finish

Vanilla cream, chocolate and coffee fade to leave menthol and crunchy apples.

    • Comment

Tropical fruit is in at the moment, and this is on point. It's lighter and fruitier than older releases and harks back to the longer-aged expressions of years gone by.

  • Producer's Notes

    • Aged in American White Oak ex-bourbon barrels, Fettercairn 12 Year Old is the colour of sunlight and amber honey, with vanilla, pear and soft spices on the nose and refreshing nectarine, tropical fruit and roasted coffee to taste. To finish, memorable flavours of sultanas and black toffee.

Very smooth speyside style whisky. I first tried it while staying in Inverness. Since then I have gone through 5 bottles. A couple were gifts to good friends. Aberlour is my first favorite but this pulls a very strong second. I highly recommend it.

Have just taken a delivery of this as the last time I had this I had covid so missed out the full taste experience. Still love it second time round. Unless I am mistaken this has a touch of the 'bourbon' about it and is very easy on the palate.

    James Calderwood,

Really interesting an enjoyable single malt. Loads of tropical fruit, coconut and vanilla coming from 12 years aged exclusively in ex bourbon casks! Highly recommended!
