Machrie Moor is named for a peat bog on the island's west coast where, according to legend, the giant Fingal kept his favoured pet dog. Now inducted into The Arran's core range, this whisky continues to capture the island's rugged and myth-strewn landscape: peat smoke and grass are lifted and given life by vanilla and a touch of sharp citrus.

Bought this after visiting the distillery. Lovely light colour like an aged chardonnay. Hints of grass, smoke and vanilla with some citrus lemon come through on nosing. Have dryness first on tasting, more lemon, then vanilla again, finishing with sweetness, and finally a little cigar smoke lingers on for a while. A nice peated offering from Arran.

A lot of sweetness, the body of the whiskey is not felt. On average, nothing special. There are many more decent whiskeys for this price. Maximum 73 points.

This is a seriously good whisky. There is a really nice nose, it's a little like being in an autumn field, with a little sweet candy scent. It's a natural colour and a really balanced flavour, nothing over powering, subtle sweetness with that lift of smoke. This is fine whisky and the packaging is fantastic, great gift.
