Tasting Notes

Tasting Notes

  • Producer's notes

    • Nose

Citrus notes with a background of peat and a puff of smoke immediately apparent.

    • Palate

A robust dram with the typical orchard fruits of Arran coming to the fore over a layer of toasted brioche and red berries.

    • Finish

Long lasting, creamy vanilla and coconut notes from the bourbon cask. A memorable dram with character and complexity.

    Bill,

This is an extremely good drink! When I visited the distillery (ah, those were the days!!) I had a sample of this one - then foolishly didn't buy a bottle. I have bought a few since.... Peaty, powerful, and a lingering after-taste. I can't recommend it highly enough. (AND, though not available through Whisky Exchange, it is worth checking out the Machrie Moor Fingal's Cut Quarter Cask - if anything, an even better drink).

    Anonymous,

Vegetal peat smoke! Packs a punch with grassy vanilla and a light smoke finish. My first cask strength whisky and the flavours are amplified compared to 40abv (even 46 seems watery compared flavour wise after this)

Nick Arran (yes really .. and no I don't own the distillery),

Not wild about it. Tastes as though it's been flavoured with peat and smoke essence rather than it being that way by nature. PeatED, rahter than PeatY, with a hint of road tar; a bit like Johnny Walker Double Black. Nice in a Whisky and Ginger mind (though it seems a terrible waste!) Lagavulin or Ardbeg it isn't. A shame, as their non "peated" expressions I rather like.

    King Nghia,

    Very strange, but nice!
