Old Duff Genever
Product Description

Made by spirits industry legend Philip Duff, who helped create Bols Genever among other brands, this is an authentic Dutch genever made in the country's traditional distilling heartland Schiedam. Composed of 53% malt wine (triple-distilled rye and malted barley) and 47% grain spirit, plus juniper, citrus peel, star anise, liquorice and coriander botanicals, this is a beautifully-made spirit that works wonderfully in traditional cocktails.

    mike D,

Have been drinking Old Duff much of the time now, in preference to gin in most gin based cocktails. Genever adds a base-note layer of complexity to a simple Marguerite that is pure delight. After trying other Genevers, Old Duff, the best real Genever I've tried , wins hands down. Gin , with its simpler and less ambiguous taste is an everyday workhorse but Old Duff takes it to another level.

    Thomas,

Open the bottle and be greeted with a strong and surprising smell of malt, similar to bread being cooked. Tasting it neat, the malt is still very much there, but it passes quickly, and is replaced by very little, leaving the drink as something of a paper tiger. Mixed with tonic, the malt is blunted a little, and other flavours are added, making this a preferable way to drink it. Ultimately, while this was an interesting experiment, I'll not be repeating it anytime soon. Gin is much more to my taste.

    Johanna,

The very best real genever I've ever tried - makes a superb Collins, and works beautifully instead of gin in a Twentieth Century cocktail, especially with a dash of Angostura's new Cocoa Bitters. Recommended for every serious cocktailian.

    Francisco,

Concerning genever's, "oude" style of genever used to be my preferred. I never drunk anything like Old Duff genever (I already drunk jonge, oude, corenwijn styles and also the Bols genever original, etc). If Phillip Duff is called as "purist", I'm with him and his thoughts about transparency and essency of the things. I'm very glad to have experienced this art. I'm not by far an expert about aromas and tastes, but this drink is full bodied, well balanced and quality drink. The aroma is like green tea and anise and the usual aroma of the maltwine I feell usually in others "oude" genevers. The taste follows the aroma with a long finish and some spice. Thank's God, Phillip Duff and everybody who, in many ways, contributed to make this drink. I got an excellenet service from TWE, the site, the package, the bottles, all impeccable. Thanks very much to all.
