• Deanston 18 Year Old
Product Description

Our Whisky of the Year for 2022, this 18-year-old Highland malt is matured entirely in first-fill Bourbon casks, dialling up Deanston’s trademark tropical fruit and honey character to eleven and reinforcing it with rich American oak notes of butter and vanilla. Fantastic stuff.

Tasting Notes

Tasting Notes

  • Billy Abbott, The Whisky Exchange

    • Nose

Well-balanced toffee and zingy lemons are joined by notes of biscuits and patisserie – shortbread and Danish pastries. Malty notes build but are balanced by candied citrus, sharp fresh and sweet baked apples with a dusting of cinnamon sugar. Fruit pushes through middle: sultanas and pears, with a pinch of nutmeg and cherry hints.

    • Palate

Creamy with the toffee and biscuits from the nose. The toffee quickly turns fruity, bring back rich stewed apple sauce – both sour and sweet – with plump sultanas and slightly unripe pears. Aniseed-ball heat builds, followed by vanilla shortbread rolled in cinnamon sugar.

    • Finish

Apple peel and lemon zest fade to leave spiced shortbread, apple pips and almonds.

Your New Favourite Distillery

For most of its life, Deanston was one of Scotland’s great workhorse distilleries – dutifully turning out stock for blenders. But in recent years it has emerged as a rising star of the single malt category. The Deanston core range offers a masterclass in contemporary whisky making: it contains malts made from Scottish barley, bottled at 46.3% ABV as standard, and offered without colouring or chill-filtration. Add the fact that each one is made using sustainable hydroelectric power and you have the perfect dram for the 21st century.

Amazing. Feels like a drop of honey in the middle of rich highland whisky. Worth the money.

    WonInARaffle,

It's a solid 3 stars considering age and price. Enjoyable dram, wouldn't go out of my way to get it again.

Well deserved whisky of the year. Will be hard to beat. One of those bottles that are there for special occasions

    Whisky Al,

It’s a seriously good whisky. And at such an affordable price. On the nose I get vanilla shortbread. Mouthfeel is almost oily, with a good tingle of tanin. The taste has something reminds me of stewed apple, sweet but not overly so. Finish is long sandalwood. If you take a sip of water soon after, you can taste it again. It’s the kind of whisky I’d save to give to someone who thinks there’s nothing worth drinking outside Speyside.
