One of the oldest, and richest, dynasties in the Seven Kingdoms, House Lannister will do anything to retain its power and influence over the Iron Throne. Their ferocious intent is aptly represented by the clawing lion of House Lannister’s banner which demonstrates that, if you cross them, you will hear the violent roar of House Lannister which has left many houses in ruins.
Lagavulin 9 Year Old is a roaring single malt that leaves an intensely smoky flavour in every sip. The golden liquid recalls the Lannisters’ riches and comes from being exclusively matured in first fill ex-Bourbon casks. The nose is characteristic of Lagavulin and bursts with sweet smoke, with a slightly zestier, maritime scent than other expressions. On the palate it opens with smoky, caramelised banana, burnt marshmallow and vanilla, fading into a salted caramel finish.

Nose
The nose is characteristically Lagavulin with the sweet smoke exploding on the nose to provide a little more zesty, maritime brine thank other expressions.

Love everything about Lagavulin 9. Beautiful whisky and superb nose! Love the 8 and 16 too. The 8 is more challenging, to be sure- more like a peppery firecracker that one. The 9 and 16 are more fruity and well rounded. Kudos to Lagavulin on this trifecta!

Not a patch on their 16 year old in my humble opinion. It’s pleasant on the nose, but I struggle to identify the flavours going on in the glass. Moderately peaty - this might come as a surprise if you haven’t had many Islay’s before, but to those accustomed I’d suggest (without being able to find any confirmation) that it’s around 15 ppm. Pretty average all in all.

This truly is a lovely dram. Took me a while to realise the smell and taste was banana and now I find it quite prominent. Typical peaty taste and nice depth. Lingering taste of sweetness. Will be buying this again
