Nose
Creamy porridge with golden syrup and a swirl of blackberry jam. Grainy notes become chocolatey – dry and flavoursome cocoa nibs, lightly crushed. Sweetness builds around the edges along with a touch of spice, as orchard fruit builds through the centre: apples and pears with a handful of sultanas.
-
Palate
Rich and rounded, with creamy toffee and chocolate disappearing under a wave of intense stewed apple and sultana. Sharp oak notes and balanced by caramel and bittersweet singed raisins. Fruity dark chocolate and soft cask char build.
-
Finish
Bitter char and sweet liquorice slowly fade. Dark chocolate cookies and polished oak remain.
-
Comment
Roasted malt notes compliment and contrast with Chichibu's trademark creamy grain character in this bright and fruity dram that slowly shows its darker side.

I am a huge fan of anything Chichibu. I was very fortunate to have my ballot chosen so I could own this awesome stout cask. I was a little disappointed the box was all black, usually Chichibu releases are known for their unique box labels and was hoping for a little more effort on this exclusive bottling for TWE. Having said that, this is a phenomenal whiskey. The nose needs time to open, but when it does it's full of heavy toffee notes. The palate has those nice herbal notes akin to black licorice. In the finish you can pick up on the malty notes you would expect out of a stout cask.
