Product Description

A bold single malt that has captured the wildness of its windswept home on the Isle of Skye, Talisker 10 Year Old is a smoky, maritime dram that has gained popularity around the world. The nose brings powerful peat smoke with hints of sweet citrus and sea salt, complemented by notes of peppery spices, vibrant fruit, rich smoke and fresh oysters, before a lingering, peppery finish.

Always a benchmark. 90 points. Serge Valentin, whiskyfun.com

Tasting Notes

Another that should need no introduction. The thing to look for in Talisker, as with all smoky whiskies, is sweetness that give the requisite balance to the drying effect of smoke. Underneath Talisker's smoke, which ain't as all-pervading as Lagavulin, is a sweet pear-like quality. When young there are notes of the land: heather, moor, sweet seaweed, and a finish that has a distinctive cracked black pepper hit.

    • Appearance

      Brilliant gold.

    • Nose

Powerful peat-smoke with sea-water saltiness, the liquor of fresh oysters, a citrus sweetness.

    • Body

      Full.

    • Palate

A rich dried-fruit sweetness with clouds of smoke and strong barley-malt flavours, warming and intense. At the back of the mouth is an explosion of pepper.

    • Finish

Huge, long, warming peppery finish with an appetising sweetness.

    John,

Having tasted this at a recent celebration party, I put a Whisky Exchange gift token to excellent use by purchasing the Talisker Ten Year Old. I love the smokiness and the bite. Still early days as there is most of the bottle to go, but great so far.

    Ricki,

Enjoyable but far from my favourite. Initially I found it quite harsh and difficult to drink but it's much more enjoyable with a dash of water.

    Anonymous,

Wonderful! I usually don‘t like smoky malts, but this is a great balance between smokiness and sweetness, while being very smooth, with a nice bit of acidity. Drink near, or with a tiny bit of soda water to unlock the flavours.
