After a quarter of a century in an ex-bourbon hogshead, this 1993 Aberlour single malt was bottled in 2019 by The Whisky Exchange. A sweet, fruity Speyside whisky, it offers aromas of poached pears, apple, buttery shortbread and cinnamon, while the palate offers notes of nutmeg, ginger, Victoria sponge, sultanas and caramel.

Tasting Notes

  • Billy Abbott, The Whisky Exchange

    • Nose

      Poached pears and crunchy apples, barley sugar and a touch of honeysuckle. Buttered orange sauce and orange zest follow, with hints of sponge cake and soft spice.

    • Palate

      Sultana sponge leads, with a background hit of spice and hints of menthol. A sea of caramel sauce at the bottom, with a stack of apples rising from its centre. Waxed oak and spice develop, with more apples and a touch of apple sauce.

    • Finish

      A burst of spice leads to vanilla sauce and Mr Kipling Country Slices. Crunchy white sugar lingers, with damp wood, and sweet and sour apple sauce.

    • Comment

      A fruity and spicy whisky with stacks of cake and a smattering of citrus.
