Part of the second wave of whiskies from independent bottler Whisky Works, this Speyside single malt was distilled at a lost distillery in Carron, Imperial and matured in American oak for two decades before it was finished for seven months in 20-year-old Cognac casks from the Bourgin Estate in southwest France. Bottled in 2019, this is a sweet, floral whisky, with aromas of citrus, violets and sweet, grassy herbal notes on the nose. The palate offers notes of creamy milk chocolate, golden syrup, ginger and strawberries & cream.

Nose
Barley sugar and toffee, candy necklaces and sweet butter. Floral notes develop along with fragrant grassiness. Soft notes of mint fondant hide at the back with building butter, toffee and butterscotch notes over the top.
-
Palate
Candied flowers lead, with Glacier Mints, sherbet lemons and sharp apples to follow. Gently spicy oak, ginger and a touch of polished wood develop. Hob-nob oats and sweet butter biscuits develop, balanced by sweet royal icing and touch of sour apple.
-
Finish
Soft but long, with a burst of sawdust fading to leave mint cream, apple sauce a touch of old damp oak. Sweet butter icing lingers.

Really nice whisky. Aromatic, sweet and fruity. Im usually an Islay drinker but this makes me want to change sides. Would love to see a sample set of all their whiskies!
