This is every bit as good as the 10yo but not it's superior. This is still a 4.5/5 whisky and I would rank both as equals.Different drams but both excellent from an equally superb distillery
This is a fabulous single malt. A good friend and myself discovered it recently. When the bottle is first opened it has an intense smokiness on the nose. In the glass the smoke recedes somewhat, but the peatiness is more prominent. The flavour is rich and complex, with a slight harshness that becomes sweet notes after the bottle is first opened. The finish is complex and long and warming. My friend and I have now decided to visit Tobermory distillery when Covid permits to try some of their other variations. You will not be disappointed with this single malt that is worth every penny!
Ledaig 18 year old was new to me last year - it was a revelation. It has now become one of my favourite single malts. When the bottle is first opened the smokiness hits the nose, and this remains on the nose and palate in the first glass. It has a real kick of spice and yet has sweetness in the long finish. When revisited after a few days, the smokiness on the nose has faded, but remains on the palate (less harshly) and it is far more complex on the mouth and finish. There is pepper and spice with caramel and a long warming finish. My friend and I have pledged to visit Tobermory distillery once the Covid lockdown permits to sample some of the other products from this wonderful distillery.
Very smooth whiskey - not too peaty
