Russian Standard vodka has come from out of nowhere to grab a large slice of the premium vodka market in the UK since its launch in 2007. A more authentically Russian alternative to Smirnoff.

This is a very nice drink. With tonic or without
Vodka as an alcohol has a pretty hard cap on how good it can be. Once it tastes like nothing it's as good as it can get. Russian Standard hits this peak at only around 18-22 dollars. Mixes excellently and goes down easy straight. Definitely recommend this over other more expensive vodkas like Grey Goose or Belvedere.
I'm much more likely to drink mezcal or whiskey, but I have to say the quality of this vodka has made me return to it regularly over the past few months. It has a subtle hint of spice, a hint of sweetness, and is perfectly smooth. To me, much better than Grey Goose, Absolute, or Tito's.
I tried this and was surprised as I've been used to Smirnoff and other budget brands. It is much drier and gutsier than Smirnoff. This may be down to being a grain vodka. Little or no sugar added means this is a drink for the grown ups. I tried it with cranberry and loved it. It seems to work well with mixed drinks so it's a shoe in for vodka cocktails. Being more Russian in style, it absolutely needs to be chilled or served over ice to drink neat. At room temperature it's really gutsy. It reminds me of weirdly of the complexity and forthrightness of Wray & Nephew Overproof Rum. It spends a long time on the palate. At the price I paid it was a steal.
