Penderyn is a Welsh whisky distilled once in a unique Faraday copper still with an added purifier and rectification column and, after a spell in bourbon barrels, is finished in Madeira casks for extra smoothness. Launched in 2004, Penderyn has built on its early promise and really carved a niche for itself.

I was in the UK, actually did a British Isles cruise. I tried a local whiskey at each stop. My first experience with Penderyn was in Holyhead. I found it again aboard the Queen Mary II. Of all the whiskys I tried this is the one I like, the single malt Maderia cask.
Nosing sweet , marzipan and citrus notes of grapefruit. Palate edge of spice like nutmeg or cinnamon with dried fruit present . Finish dry mid-finish of lingering honey and vanilla.
It's fiery and takes a lot of taming by dilution. With or without drowning, there's hardly any taste and little nose. Nice looking bottle, though.
Madeira finish single malt: Harsh and underaged. Massive disappointment for the price.
Really wasn't a fan. Lacks the character of a nice Scotch and is overly expensive for the 'bells experience' you get. Worth a go, but sadly not for me.
