Kyrö's sweet and spicy Finnish single malt rye whisky is made exclusively with malted wholegrain rye from Finland and matured in virgin American white oak or ex-Bourbon barrels. Aromas of rich malt, green rye and beeswax mingle with caramel, apricot vanilla and raspberry on the nose. The palate offers notes of honey, sweet rye bread, black pepper, wild berries, vanilla and oak spice that lingers in the finish.

    Update: With the bottle open a week this has definitely mellowed. It isn’t that I’ve “gotten used” to it. There is definitely some sort of oxidation process going on which I have never encountered in a whiskey before. So it could definitely benefit from being opened for a while. I was probably way too harsh in my initial assessment. I’ll move it up to a 4* but I recommend you open it and let it breath. Worth a try if you want something new.

    I’m a huge fan of Finland (for 40 years) but this whiskey needs more ageing. I come from a background of Scotch and Irish so I’m used to taste and smoothness. The rye is interesting but it’s very young and dare I say rough. I’d like to taste a 10 yrs plus version mellowed by resting in barrels. I spent a fortune in Helsinki Airport buying Finnish Malts and I’m sadly disappointed. So beware.
