Product Description
This is the second exclusive bottling for the Whisky Exchange from Barbados' Foursquare distillery. Named Diadem - a type of crown or headband worn by monarchs as a sign of royalty - this rum is definitely a crown jewel. A single traditional blended rum( from pot and column stills), this has been aged for 12 years in ex Bourbon and ex Madeira casks.
The Madeira brings a wonderful fruit and nuttiness to the rum with notes of prune, orange rind and plenty of dried fruit. The bourbon cask gives sweet nutmeg and powdered spices with vanilla and buttered popcorn. The palate is rich and intense with a delightful vein of acidity that opens up the palate to bring the ripe banana and pineapple to the fore, alongside red cherries and linseed oil with a hint of green walnut on the finish. This rum needs time in glass to allow it to open up and develop. Just over 2000 bottles have been produced.

Tasting Notes
Tasting Notes
-
Billy Abbott, The Whisky Exchange
-
Nose
Crême brûlée and freshly polished leather; lardy cake and fresh paint; sugar-dusted sultanas and polished oak: a careful balance of sweet and savoury. Freshly peel bananas and spiced sponge cake develop along with roasted pineapple and brown sugar.
-
Palate
Toffee-covered banana fritters to start, with the toffee notes gradually getting both more singed and fruity: baked apples, overripe pineapples and squishy bananas. Char notes build to balance the sweetness, with an accompaniment of bittersweet dark chocolate.
-
Finish
Singed toffee notes fade to reveal more roasted banana and dark chocolate.

One outstanding bottle that will never be seen again. This offering is so vastly different in its delivery and finish it truly stands apart for me with the recent Foursquare releases. That being said each of them is outstanding in their own right, this one is a much heavier and robust blast of spice and caramel that doesn't take much of to get you where you want to be. Although it's no cheap endeavour to get one of these to the States from the UK it's well worth it and if you miss it you'll truly be missing out on a rare gem in the Foursquare lineup.
