A 2010 Loch Lomond single malt bottled in September 2020 exclusively for The Whisky Exchange, after a decade in a single first fill bourbon barrel. It's focused around fruity flavour, with everything from the special wine yeast used to ferment it to the unique straight-necked pot stills creating and concentrating estery fruity notes. Aromas of baked apple, custard, vanilla, flapjacks and pine needles fill the nose, followed by notes of pear drops, peppermint, apple skin, brambles, black pepper and buttery pastry throughout the palate.Tasting Notes (1)
Billy Abbott, The Whisky Exchange
Apples and custard to start – baked Granny Smiths and sweet apple pies drenched with sweet, vanilla-forward custard and light cream. Flapjacks and spiced sponge cake develop with time in the glass, with the sweetness balanced by green leaf and pine-needle notes.
Crunchy apples and peats veer towards pear drops and boiled sweets. The sweetshop notes continue with rhubarb & custards, sherbet pips and wine gums, as well as a touch of peppermint cream. Apple skin and thin, crispy, buttery pastry hide at the back with dark berry fruit and peppery spice.
Rich stewed apples and pears fade to leave a chilli-pepper tingle, vanilla cream and sweet liquorice root.
This whisky was created with fruitiness in mind and fruity it is. The first-fill cask has added layers of vanilla cream on top of the fruit-forward spirit, which has only got fruitier as it has matured. Juicy and delightful.
