Product Description

Bowmore 12yo has a place in many hearts as Islay's 'medium-peated' malt. A pronounced iodine character with plenty of pepper, the current 12yo bottling is a welcome return to the classic Bowmores of the 1960s and '70s, with the emphasis on tropical fruit and smoke. A deserved runner-up in our Whisky of the Year 2014-15 blind tasting.

Tasting Notes

Tasting Notes

  • Tasting Notes by Stuart P

    • Nose

Appetising combo of smoke and caramelised pineapple with a heady hit of tropical fruit.

    • Palate

Some lovely smokiness, but the fruity elements really sing here: pineapple, peach and mango all dancing with the smoke that surrounds them. Great balance.

    • Finish

Rather soft and relaxing, with the smoke gently fading.

  • Producer's Tasting Notes

    • On the eye

      Warm amber.

    • Breathe in

Subtle lemon and honey, balanced beautifully by Bowmore's trademark peaty smokiness.

    • Sip

Sweet and delicious heather honey and gentle peat smoke.

    • Savour

      The long, mellow finish.

    Johnny,

Thin and full of strange off-flavours that do not mesh well with smoky peat. Big miss for me.

    Jason,

I think I must have a bad batch, as this smells and tastes awful. The aroma is unpleasant in a kind of dirty, rubbery way. I love Islay whiskies and Campbletown, so it's not that I don't enjoy peated whisky. My experience does not seem to be anything like the tasting notes described. I only paid 20 quid though, but still, would rather a bottle of Bells than this. I would steer clear, and get a bottle Bunnahabhain Moine or an Ardbeg wee beastie, a bit more money but much, much better whisky.

    Mario Liverpool, UK,

I've just tried Bowmore 12 y-old for first time. For it's age is amazing and quiet soft I can say. Lovely flavour and smell tasty. It burn's little bit, but this is 12y-old end of the day. It must be heavy. Well better than most scotch drinks from similar group and price range ! Will buy again.
