Glen Scotia 11 Year Old Sherry Double Cask Finish
A Perfect Measure sample bottle of an 11-year-old Glen Scotia single malt that has been matured in a combination of oloroso and Pedro Ximenez sherry casks. The nose offers notes of toffee, ripe plums and spices, complemented by notes of vanilla, raisins, sultanas, salted butter and baking spices throughout the palate.

Now don't get me wrong, I love Glen Scotia normally. It is my go to Malt, but this is just not good. The double cask treatment to me masks all that goes to define Glen Scotia and not to it's benefit. All those tastes that one normally associates with Glen Scotia which make it such an appetite arousing dram are overpowered by the spice imparted by the double casks. An unnecessary experiment.

Opened this last evening. Archetypal Campbeltown. Vanilla fudge toned down with touch of briny salinity. A spicy, dry finish. Can't say I got much sherry influence despite what it says on the box - more first-fill bourbon cask on the palate and nose. At 54.1% and ncf it's a powerful dram.
