Tasting Notes

Tasting Notes

  • Producer's notes

    • Brilliant gold colour. On the nose, all of the aroma of the Williams pears and in the taste of the Cognac Brillet in the mouth. This delicious drink without equal can be consumed on its own, with ice after a marvellous dinner and shared with friends.

Born in Anjou

The William pears used to make this exceptional liqueur are picked in early September, when the first hints of autumn appear in the orchards of Anjou. After they are picked and given a few extra days of ripening, the pears are deemed to be at peak flavour and aroma, at which point they are crushed and left to naturally ferment. When October comes, they are distilled to produce the pear eau-de-vie that will form the basis of Belle de Brillet.

Made with Cognac

Maison Brillet then blend the pear eau-de-vie with Cognac from a single vineyard in the Fin Bois. The flowers and stone fruit notes of the Cognac add complexity and structure to the fresh character of ripe William pears. A little sugar and Madagascan vanilla complete the picture, contributing softness and body to this singular liqueur.

Belle Bulle

This refreshing spritz lifts the bright fruit profile of Belle de Brillet with citrus and soda for a perfect aperitif.

  • 50ml Belle de Brillet
  • 20ml Fresh lemon juice
  • 100ml soda water
  • 2 olives for garnish

Mix Belle de Brillet and lemon juice in a large wine glass with plenty of ice and stir briefly to chill and combine. Slowly top with soda water, garnish with the olives and enjoy.

    R Preston,

I had seen adverts come up for this liqueur and being a fan of both pears and Cognac I decided to buy some for our bar. I gave a bottle to my partner for Valentine's day, instead of the normal champagne. When opened, you are greeted with a warming cognac smell with a hint of pears. I strongly recommend pouring this into a proper brandy balloon and warming it with your hands first. The warmth really releases the flavours and the aroma is phenomenal. It is beautifully smooth, with a wonderful bright pear flavour; a fabulous combination. It's our new favourite drink and I don't see the bottle lasting long. This is what my mother-in-law would have called a 'nippy sweetie', although you'll want more than a nip!

We visited this distillery in late 90s. What a delight to know the pear liqueur is still available. Golden nectar.

    Dave From France,

We new we loved this liqueur after buying a half bottle locally, but it is even nicer than we remembered. Sweet, but full bodies and just an excellent taste. I see some of the other reviewers suggest fireside supping, but we found it is lovely on a very hot French evening as well.
