A cask strength Islay single malt from Morrison Scotch Whisky Distillers Mac-Talla range, Mara reflects the maritime character of this Hebridean island, surrounded by the Atlantic sea. The palate offers notes of smoked meat, charred oak, salty driftwood and smouldering peat, with hints of dried seaweed, beach bonfires and rock salt that linger in the finish.

    Classic, unadulterated Islay. Crisp and clean, fresh almost - if that is a thing? As an Islay lover I had to give it a go at the price point - didn't disappoint! I love it - keep coming back to 'clean' - no added colouring, no hiding behind fancy barrels, just Islay whisky done so well, without being drowned oak.

    I love the first sip - very heavy start, a lot of smoke, a bit of salt, no sweetness at all. The finish is quite weak and the flavours do not last long. But it is not unpleasant finish with a lot of warmth, though.

    A full on and somewhat fantastic concoction. Not for the faint hearted, this is complex with lots of sea and some smoke and it benefits (imo) from a drop or two of water. But for those that like a challenge this dram rewards you where it counts, punching well above its weight for the price tag.
