A whisky that needs no introduction, this iconic dram is – for many of us – the archetypal Speyside whisky. Macallan’s heavyweight single malt has always had an affinity for sherry, so this 18-year-old expression, aged entirely in sherry-seasoned oak casks, is a real treat. Rich and supple, with a pleasant oiliness on the palate, this classic Speyside is dense with notes of macadamia nuts and almonds, raisins, and chocolates. Hints of aged black tea and cigar boxes balance the sweeter notes with a sense of earthiness and depth.

    Bought as a Christmas gift for my son, who likes his whisky’s. He let me have a taste and it seemed fine to me, but I am no judge. He thinks it’s the best whisky he’s ever tried and he’s tried lots of different ones, so I would bow to his judgment.
