The 2021-release of gently smoky sherry cask matured English single malt from The English Whisky Co. is a softly smoky whisky with a bright and fruity character. The palate offers notes of cherries, aniseed, liquorice, toffee, honey, cinnamon, toasted oak and aromatic peat smoke that linger in the finish.

I did enjoy this whisky very much, there is not anything to dislike really. I found it smoke forward with subtle hints of juicy dark fruits that wind their way around the smoke throughout the short experience. Nothing out of place, and although its not a lasting impression, not all drinks need to be. This will be gone soon and I will wonder where it went. I have tried the Chapter 7and11 and a few others and would recommend most whisky/s from these folks!

I disagree with the review below, I think that's an unfair assessment in my opinion. I have had several expressions from The English Whisky Distillery and found them all to be very enjoyable, and this is no exception. I like my sherry matured peated whiskys, I found this rich with bonfire smokiness, dark fruits, dry with a decent amount of spiciness including clove and cinnamon etc. Very pleasant whisky.

Another deflating product from The English Distillery that promised so much. Its hard to detect any of the flavours listed in the description when you try this bottling. The English Distillery themselves go so far as to describe this whisky as "creamy" but it could not be further from it. Bottled at 46% its as hot and nippy as a cask strength whisky. Thats the first thing you get which is not a good sign. Even with time to breathe and a little water, sipping it is quiet offensive. As for the flavour? Yet again another whisky from this distillery that fails to deliver on expectation. No complexity, no layers of flavour that you would expect from a whisky aged in a sherry hogs head. Im starting to think this distillery needs to radically rethink its cask programme. They must be using dead casks that are just not interacting with their spirit on any meaningful level. I cant think of any distillery that constantly delivers such underwhelming product. Its all style over substance. The bottles and packaging look great, but the moment you pour your first dram it all goes down hill. This is the third expression i have had from The English Distillery and yet again i am writing a review of disappointment. I was expecting a luscious dram reminiscent of something from Speyside, but all i got was a hot, astringent whisky that lacks any kind of real depth. Whatever is going on, please fix it English Distillery, you have so much more potential.
