Old Smuggler is a long running blended whisky, first bottled back in 1835. Named in honour of the whisky smugglers who traded around the Scottish islands back in those days it's still popular today, especially in Argentina and Belgium(!).
What can I say, for the price this is a real smooth drink, I drink it neat with a drop of water.
Since becoming a scotch drinker many years ago, Old Smuggler, after trying many, is by far my favorite scotch regardless of price!! Old Smuggler has beautiful color, and is very smooth! So much goodness for the price!!!
Very nice blend, smooth and easy to drink.
I've tasted it on a family meeting. It has a strange vegetable oil-like color but its texture not that oily at all. On the nose it feels pretty thin with some maltyness and subtle smoke in the background. If you are not careful enough alcohol dominates the aroma. Bad omen. With more appropiate sniffing you definitely can feel malt, some shy fruityness - stewed fruits maybe - toasted bread and walnut and some roasted seeds smokeyness still in the background. But be careful, when you are not gentle enough these notes are disappear and the cheap alcholic standard smokey-malty cheap scotch aroma will be the only that you can "enjoy". On the palate it opens with robust sweetness and some acidic ester-like fruityness. One dimensional and still feels cheap, however somehow in the beginnig it seems better than you expected. But after this point the very worst part of your tasting comes. In the end it's far more smoky than that was promised by it's smell and that smokeyness turs into a very unbalanced, dry and harsh aftertaste. It's like chewing wet chunks of wood. And the dry test is also a disaster. You can't smell any maltyness like in the beginning but you can feel some pungent, sharp solvent like odour. It's not just disgusting but also paiful for your nose. Very very not recommended. Maybe it's artificial flavor can be softened with some sugary soda or coke, but in most cases a whisky that needs that kind of enchancement(?) Is a definitely don't buy. This is one of them.
Very smooth and easy to drink
