Isle of Raasay Single Malt R-02 First Release
A 3cl Perfect Measure sample of R-02, a lightly peated single malt from Isle of Raasay distillery. This vatting of peated and unpeated whisky has been matured in first-fill ex-rye whiskey casks virgin Chinkapin oak and first-fill Bordeaux wine casks. The result is a fruity dram with lots of dark berries, earthy smoke, subtle sea salt and juicy plums.

The smoke and peat are spot on in this, neither too week nor too strong. A pleasant addition to the Island whiskies. The Ammonite on the bottle is also worth a mention!

Quite smoky and peaty as I like it but it felt too young for me. I think another 5 years in the cask would create a truly lovely West coast scotch. I think 3 1/2 stars
