A 2006 Orkney single malt, bottled exclusively for The Whisky Exchange by indie bottler Signatory Vintage, that was made at an undisclosed distillery on Orkney and matured in a refill sherry butt for 16 years. Aromas of charred apples, barbecue sauce, chocolate, smoky charcoal, tar and roasted peppers fill the nose, followed by notes of ripe orchard fruit, tar, black liquorice, oak spice, black pepper, candied lemon, dark chocolate and thick wood smoke throughout the palate.

Tasting Notes

Billy Abbott, The Whisky Exchange
- Nose
  Barbecued apples with a drizzle of barbecue sauce. Roasted peppers and chocolate develop, along with charcoal smokiness and a touch of tar.
- Palate
  Rich and intense fresh orchard fruit to start, with tar and more apples, this time barbecued. The tarry notes along with a touch of black liquorice form a core. Dark chocolate notes build, as do woody spice and wood smoke. Black pepper notes appear around the edges as chocolate truffles roll in.
- Finish
  Lingering tar, dark chocolate and hint of candied lemon.

While the history of The Whisky Exchange starts in 1999, the story of co-founders Sukhinder and Rajbir’s family goes back decades further – this year we are celebrating their 50th year of working in the world of drinks. Back in the 1970s, their parents – Narinder and Bhupinder – founded The Nest, an off-license in Hanwell in west London. It grew over the next couple of decades to be a destination for spirits lovers worldwide, and Sukhinder and Rajbir continued the business online to create The Whisky Exchange. To celebrate, we’ve worked with some of the friends they’ve made over the years around the world to bottle a collection of exclusive whiskies that shows the family’s aim from day one – to introduce people to great-tasting drinks, no matter where they are from.
