Highland Park 12 Year Old remains one of the gold- standard malts for other distillery bottlings to aspire to. With a delicious sweetness (heather-honey is their preferred description) and a warming, silky mouthfeel, this is a whisky that never lets you down. "The greatest all-rounder in the world of malt whisky". Michael Jackson, Michael Jackson's Malt Whisky CompanionTasting Notes (3)
Tasting Notes by Billy A
Salted lemons, a whiff of charcoal smoke, crunchy green apples, tropical fruit chews, unripe mango, beeswax, honey, dusty wood and fruity dark chocolate – maybe chocolate limes? It develops in the glass, picking up more fruit and slowly cutting the citrus notes.
Starts off with syrup sweetness, quickly moving on to sour and creamy wood, with more tropical chews, pineapple and smoked orange rind.
Smoky wood, malt syrup, green pine cones and woody spice.
Tasting Notes by Gavin D Smith for Whisky Advocate
Highland Park 12 Year Old boasts individuality and complexity, thanks in part to the use of Orcadian peat in the distillery floor maltings and the employment of ex-sherry casks for maturation. The nose is fragrant and floral, with hints of heather and some spice. Smooth and honeyed on the palate, with citrus fruits, malt, and distinctive tones of wood smoke in the warm, lengthy, slightly peaty finish.
Producer's Tasting Notes
Heather-honey sweetness; peaty smokiness.
Rounded smoky sweetness, full malt delivery.
Teasing, heathery, delicious.

After trying this whiskey , I can say I can’t detect any of the flavours mentioned in the tasting notes
Excellent, smooth and enjoyable to drink. Don't hesitate.
Thought useful to leave a review as had a journey with this bottle! Initial thoughts were not favourable and was tempted to forget about this one. However potentially due to having reasonably enjoyed the Naked Malt, as a cheap sipper to stop me burning through the good stuff (along with Monkey Shoulder), I started appreciating the notes in the HP12(Viking) that I liked in the Naked Grouse/Malt - HP being a constituent part of the Naked Malt blend. The strange floral taste seemed to calm and the sweet honey and sherry notes grew on me, and for nearly £30 (only a little over) it’s not that bad. Perhaps 3.5/5 is fair, but that doesn’t mean it’s a bad whisky and certainly not bad value at the price point. Is it worth spending an extra £10 to get a Talisker or Arran - yes. However an interesting journey for me to go from annoyance for having bought something I really didn’t like, to thinking it makes a reasonable sipper to infill Lagavulin/MacAllan time!
I received this bottle of Highland Park 12yr old scotch as a gift, I am an avid scotch drinker and this is the only single malt scotch to ever have the distinct honor of being dumped down my kitchen drain. The iodine taste just completely overwhelms all of the other flavors if there are any and ruins the taste. Unless your a fan of metallic iodine I would recommend avoiding this one.
Highland park 12.... It's quite sweet there's a little smoke to it not much. heather and honey .... well kind of. There's not much going on all in all don't get me wrong it's a nice drink I've enjoyed it but will a buy again erm .. Probably not. I'm thinking the cask strength would be a good option. The bottle is really nice and the packaging but you don't drink that do you.
