Highland Park 12 Year Old remains one of the gold- standard malts for other distillery bottlings to aspire to. With a delicious sweetness (heather-honey is their preferred description) and a warming, silky mouthfeel, this is a whisky that never lets you down. "The greatest all-rounder in the world of malt whisky". Michael Jackson, Michael Jackson's Malt Whisky CompanionTasting Notes (3)
Tasting Notes by Billy A
Salted lemons, a whiff of charcoal smoke, crunchy green apples, tropical fruit chews, unripe mango, beeswax, honey, dusty wood and fruity dark chocolate – maybe chocolate limes? It develops in the glass, picking up more fruit and slowly cutting the citrus notes.
Starts off with syrup sweetness, quickly moving on to sour and creamy wood, with more tropical chews, pineapple and smoked orange rind.
Smoky wood, malt syrup, green pine cones and woody spice.
Tasting Notes by Gavin D Smith for Whisky Advocate
Highland Park 12 Year Old boasts individuality and complexity, thanks in part to the use of Orcadian peat in the distillery floor maltings and the employment of ex-sherry casks for maturation. The nose is fragrant and floral, with hints of heather and some spice. Smooth and honeyed on the palate, with citrus fruits, malt, and distinctive tones of wood smoke in the warm, lengthy, slightly peaty finish.
Producer's Tasting Notes
Heather-honey sweetness; peaty smokiness.
Rounded smoky sweetness, full malt delivery.
Teasing, heathery, delicious.

Highland park 12.... It's quite sweet there's a little smoke to it not much. heather and honey .... well kind of. There's not much going on all in all don't get me wrong it's a nice drink I've enjoyed it but will a buy again erm .. Probably not. I'm thinking the cask strength would be a good option. The bottle is really nice and the packaging but you don't drink that do you.
Heather/honey and a slight whiff of chocolate on the nose.Salty arrival which then becomes a beautiful sweet heathery taste which leads to a slightly peaty but brisk finish. If this had the higher ABV of an HP NAS this would be an absolute belter of a dram.As it is I'd give it 3.75/5 and a nudge to HP to up their game
We tried this whiskey and really enjoyed it . Just about to order more .
New make spirit - harsh, pear drops, something chemical. God knows where this was supposed to be maturing for 12 years, but those casks must have been long dead and gone. On the other hand the marketing B.S. and packaging are lovely.
Bought this in the US late 2020. I have traveled in Scotland, toured Macallan and other distilleries, but am not an « expert », just a 58 year old with a mature palate. That said, this is undrinkable. My father and I both poured it out. The bottle is still pretty full and I am thinking of tossing it instead of inflicting it on house guests. Truly awful taste. I used to love HP and traveled to Orkney and loved the place.
