Tasting Notes

Tasting Notes

  • Tasting Notes by Billy A

    • Nose

Salted lemons, a whiff of charcoal smoke, crunchy green apples, tropical fruit chews, unripe mango, beeswax, honey, dusty wood and fruity dark chocolate – maybe chocolate limes? It develops in the glass, picking up more fruit and slowly cutting the citrus notes.

    • Palate

Starts off with syrup sweetness, quickly moving on to sour and creamy wood, with more tropical chews, pineapple and smoked orange rind.

    • Finish

Smoky wood, malt syrup, green pine cones and woody spice.

  • Tasting Notes by Gavin D Smith for Whisky Advocate

    • Highland Park 12 Year Old boasts individuality and complexity, thanks in part to the use of Orcadian peat in the distillery floor maltings and the employment of ex-sherry casks for maturation. The nose is fragrant and floral, with hints of heather and some spice. Smooth and honeyed on the palate, with citrus fruits, malt, and distinctive tones of wood smoke in the warm, lengthy, slightly peaty finish.

    • Finish

      Teasing, heathery, delicious.

I'm not an "expert" whisky drinker but I do have a decent collection and enjoy a diverse range. This HP 12 is a CHALLENGING tipple. The harshness and chemical aftertaste will, (regrettably) doubtless linger upon my unassuming palate long after I am dead.

    Graham Price,

Splendid.lightly peated ,heather & honey. Very well balanced, but not for smoke monsters . At £ 34 great value for your quid. Will be trying the 15 yo next

    Colin Wright,

I haven't liked single malts that previously I have tried so I may be a poor critic. My son gave me a bottle of Highland Park for Christmas a number of years ago and I liked it immediately. I have only taken a couple of glasses at special times so there is still some left in the bottle. It seems to get better with age. I will certainly be buying a new bottle for myself. According to some of the sniffy reviewers here, I suppose I am just not a whisky connoisseur! Do I care? No.
