Product Description
This 100% Irish rye whiskey is the result of experimentation done at Midleton distillery in county Cork. Powers Irish Rye was designed by Irish Distillers’ archivist Carol Quinn, who dived into the company’s historical mash bills from the 19th and 20th centuries looking for inspiration. The rye for the expression was commissioned and specially grown at Cooney Furlong Farm in county Wexford. The whiskey has been matured in a mixture of virgin, first-fill and refill American oak casks - providing a sweet balance to the peppery character of the rye grain.
The whiskey offers aromas of burnt orange, maraschino cherries, and toffee-covered bananas, complimented by rich freshly baked rye bread, buttered croissants, and charred oak. Spices such as clove, white pepper, and ginger are well-balanced with sweet vanilla and earthy sugar cane notes. The palate offers an extra dose of peppermint , caramelised apples, brown sugar, sweet cereal, and red liquorice, followed by a long finish with a dash of chilli oil, honey-glazed fruits, and cereal undertones. Enjoy neat as it is, or mix in a Manhattan.

I've tried a few American and Canadian rye whiskies now, my favourite being Sazerac. Powers' Irish Rye doesn't seem inferior in comparison to any of them, is quite drinkable, nice and spicy, but from my experience the only definitive way to compare is to have a few of them on the go and blind taste them, which I've done with some Single Pot Still whiskies. I'd definitely buy this again
On the flavour to price ratio this is a win
As I'm writing this review, I'm sipping a glass of Jack Daniel's Rye ( I bought at Duty-Free ( U.S.) in January,2024 ).Rye is a U.S. ( and Canadian ) classic whiskey. Now, JD is new to the Rye Business ( and not near close to a No.1 Rye ).Powers Rye is a very poor Rye example ..insipid/weak...Ireland Calling !
A light-bodied rye that is actually quite delicate and intricate in flavour as the charred-cask effect is not noticeable, unlike in US rye whiskies. A welcome addition to the Powers range, I would definitely buy this again
Well up to the best of American rye whiskys
